locations/ FAQ
My main office is located at 1674 Hillyer Robinson Parkway, Suite 1100 in Oxford Alabama for in office sessions.
Serenity Counseling is on the 1st floor, to the left when you enter the building.
Please make yourself comfortable in our waiting room prior to your appointment.. Complimentary tea, coffee, and water is available for clients and their families.
Please note that my main model of delivery is traditional therapy/in office but walk and talk sessions and teletherapy can also be arranged.
Parks are typical meeting locations for walk and talk sessions. I have designated:
Choccolocco Park, Lagarde Park and Golden Springs Park
as my three locations. We can discuss which parks are closest to you during the intake process.
What about the weather
It is the client's call to make the "weather call" for walk and talk. Umbrellas for light rain and coats for chilly weather have never stopped the therapeutic process. Indoor walking can be discussed and office sessions or teletherapy are always an option.
Is this a cardio workout/ personal training?
No, this is not personal training, and the client sets the pace. The focus is on your processing, and not on exercise. There is nothing physically strenuous about the session. You set the pace! A Walk & Talk session is about you, your pace, and your comfort. The focus is on the therapy process and not on competition or walking until exhausted. I know it may feel like a challenge, but I will support you every step of the way if you are feeling scared or ashamed. Together we will move you toward a healthier way of relating to your mind, body and spirit!
What about confidentiality
For walk and talk, you simply sign a consent form addressing confidentiality before we begin. If by chance we happen to run into someone you know, then I will follow your lead and will never compromise your confidentiality. It is up to you to acknowledge me as your therapist if you chose to do so – the choice is up to you.
Do you make diet and nutrition plans?
As a Licensed Counselor, I will work with you as a support and encouragement and provide behavioral tools as you move forward. I am not a nutritionist, and I will not advise you on food. Research shows over and over that diets don't work! You and I will work as a team in counseling to help you figure out why you are making choices that are sabotaging your progress, and get a plan in place with goals that I will encourage and support as you move into a healthier relationship and accountability with your body and food. If you are seeking guidance on nutrition, I will be happy to provide you with a referral as a support.
